Orphans of Ethiopia
| The Ethiopian government has authorized only a few international adoption agencies to work in Ethiopia. Orphans residing in homes set up by American agencies experience a unique environment. The children are prepared for U.S. adoption by taking English classes and learning about the lifestyles of American families. |
While these children learn western table manners, sports, and how to participate in household chores, the adoption agencies search for families to bring these children home. Adoptions are relatively inexpensive from Ethiopia, and the process tends to go smoothly.
These children are typically healthy. They have all received immunizations and have been tested for AIDs, TB, and other infectious diseases. Most of them spent their early years with their biological families and bond well with others. These children adapt easily and are excited at the prospect of finding a new family.

Ethiopia is open to US adoptions.
In 2003, U.S. citizens adopted approximately 135 children from Ehtiopia. Children available for adoption include boys and girls, infants and older, sibling groups, and children with special needs. These children reside in orphanages.
